CPI Academy

The advancement, support and training of junior and early-mid career scientists in basic, translational and clinical research are central priorities of the CPI. A major goal is to promote the early independence and support young scientists at the potential “cliffs of failure”. For example at the transition between PhD student and postdoc, from postdoc to established group leader, and from established group leader to professorship position. We have designed a number of initiatives to identify and support “next generation leaders” at different career stages in the field of cardiopulmonary science and medicine.

Why do you think the CPI is a unique catalyzer of your research?

The CPI brings together people with diverse expertise, perspectives, and scientific backgrounds in a highly collaborative environment. These close interactions among basic, translational, and clinical researchers allow me to unravel complex cardiopulmonary questions from multiple angles. Being part of such a dynamic and supportive community, where collaboration drives innovation, helps me develop my ideas into research that can ultimately be translated from bench to bedside.

Why would you recommend joining the CPI Academy?

The CPI Academy is a valuable platform for early-career researchers, offering support in many ways, including funding opportunities, workshops, and scientific exchange. Its highly international and inclusive environment creates a strong sense of belonging and encourages us to grow beyond the boundaries of our own disciplines. By connecting us with peers, mentors, and leading experts, the CPI Academy broadens our perspectives, builds our confidence, and fosters lasting professional relationships.

Speaker: Julian Wagner

Julian is a young Group Leader at the Institute of Cardiovascular Regeneration at the Goethe-University Frankfurt.

Why do you think the CPI is a unique catalyzer of your research?

The CPI combines the international elite of cardio-pulmonary researchers in one organization. By being a part of this consortium it has never been easier for me to directly interact with high ranking scientists and field specialists. This allows strong basic and translational collaborations, the immediacy of which was only exemplified by establishment of joint research projects at the onset of the COVID19 pandemic.

Why would you recommend joining the CPI Academy?

The CPI Academy provides a protected space allowing young researchers to grow. Early independence can be acquired by start-up opportunities, such as the Postdoc Grant or the Postdoc Start-Up Grant, but also by networking during the high-quality webinars and symposia. Therefore, the CPI Academy not only fosters and maintains interactions among the CPI members but also establishes new ones with highly reputed international scientists.
